US AIR FORCE KOREA

Jerry Lee Whitaker, 82, beloved husband, father, and grandpapa, went home to his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2015 after a courageous battle with extended illnesses.

Jerry was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Herbert Earl and Opal Ione (Cowman) Whitaker on July 28, 1932. Their Family settled in Billings, Montana in 1937 where he graduated High School in 1950.

Jerry enlisted in the US Air force from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. He proudly served as an Airman 1st Class for the 807th Air Police Squadron in the 15th Air Force. He graduated from Billings Business College with an accounting degree. This began a dedicated career in Accounting from 1956 until 2008 including his home business, IHN Accounting, and as a licensed Tax Consultant.

Jerry married the love of his life; Alice Ruth Anderson on August 17, 1957 in Billings, Montana. The couple settled in Salem, Oregon growing their family of four children. They served the Lord together in various churches in their 57 years of marriage amidst many dear friendships.

A family man; Jerry loved meals together including nights out with his wife. Jerry avidly followed Northwest sports particularly the UO Ducks, Portland Trailblazers, and Seattle Mariners. He enjoyed music, especially Country gospel hymns. He found the outdoors relaxing; camping and road trips with family along with driving his John Deere tractor. Dad is lovingly remembered with a cap perched on his head and as a kind, gentle man; quiet and hardworking with a quick wit.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Dale and Essie (DuBois) Whitaker and brother-in-law Lew Emmons.

Jerry was interred with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR on May 14 at 12:30 PM. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 30 at 2:00 PM at Howell Edwards Chapel in Salem, OR. Memorial donations may be made to Guideposts Military Outreach.

The family thanks the nursing staff of Marian Estates, and Dr. Carp and Dr. Tiffany for caring for our Dad.
