Herman S. Benner, 80, of 905 Sunset Dr., died at 10:09 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1908, in Cass County to Harley and Minnie Homburg Benner. He was married Feb. 6, 1935, in Burnettsville to Helen C. Shull, who died July 25, 1963. He was married March 12, 1972, in Logansport to Fern E. Brown, who survives. He graduated from Bradley University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a retired farmer from Clinton Township. He was a member and past master of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge #211, a member of the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis; and Good Sam Campers Club; He was a member of Burrows Presbyterian Church, where he had served as deacon, elder, trustee, and treasurer.

Also surviving are a daughter, Charlotte A. Rinehart, 901 E. Main; a son, Samuel L., Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Esther Thornburg, Salem, Ore., and Jean Akre, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Edna Conn, Rt. 2; six grandsons; two step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters and a great-grandson preceded in death.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in McCloskey-Hamilton-Gundrum Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry K. Phleger officiating. Burial will be in Keeps Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Burrows Presbyterian Church.
