Jenny G. Cortez, 84, of East Moline, passed away June 1, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Silvis. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Jenny was born June 26, 1930, in East Moline, the daughter of Martin and Candelaria Gomez. She was the sixth of seven children and treasured her relationships with her parents, sisters and brothers. She was united in marriage to Rudolph L. Hernandez in 1947, a Navy World War II veteran. He died in 1970. She then married Antonio Cortez in 1947, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He died in 2000. She worked for Rock Island County Recorder of Deeds before retiring. Survivors are her children, Rudy (Janet Clark) Hernandez, Davenport, Richard (Patty) Hernandez, Moline, Susan Villalobos, Chandler, Ariz., Rose (Ray Lind) Hernandez, Rock Island, Mike Hernandez, Silvis, and Melinda (Jeff) Verstraete, Silvis; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Riordan, Moline.
