Agnes W. Hougas age 95 of Monroe, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Agnes was born on December 15, 1919 in Alexandria, Virginia, the daughter of Richard and Agnes (Marshall) Washington. Agnes earned a degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and worked as a visiting nurse for many years. She married Walter D. Hougas in 1948 in Virginia. In 1972 the family moved to Monroe where Agnes was employed as a nurse at St. Clare Hospital for several years until retiring. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Monroe and the Monroe Morning Optimist Club.

She is survived by three children, Anne (Richard) Watman of Monroe, Walter (Angeline) Hougas Jr. of McFarland, WI, and Robert (Angela) Hougas of Delavan, WI; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 64 years, Walter Hougas on October 19, 2012; and six brothers.

A celebration of Agnes' life was held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Brian Backstrand of St. Andrews Episcopal Church officiating.

A quiet, private person, Agnes was very loved and will be missed by her family, her church family, and by so many whom she touched with loving kindness. God bless and keep you, Agnes.
