Charles H. Carter, 85, retired farmer of Route 2, Ava, and a lifelong resident of Douglas County, died at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.Mr. Carter was born Nov. 19, 1884 in Douglas County, a son of Bill and Sarah Rogers Carter. His wife, Eva Bean Carter, preceded him in death April 1, 1946. He was a member of the Arno Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Willie B. Carter, Springfield, and a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Beavan, Route 2, Ava; a half-brother, Andy P. Hall and a half-sister, Mrs. Ella Miller, both of Route 2, Ava; three grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Clinkingbeard Chapel by Rev. Fred Woodall of Springfield. Burial was in the Huffman Cemetery, north of Ava, under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
