"Lewis Capps died at Hawk Point last Friday night of heart disease and dropsy. His burial took place at the Fairview Cemetery on Friday. He was about 65 years of age and was born and reared in Lincoln County. He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters."
Lewis Preston Capps' death certificate shows he was born April 3, 1844, in Lincoln County, Missouri, and died June 23, 1910, at Hawk Point, Lincoln County, Missouri. Since the above death notice was published in July of 1910, it appears the 1909 date on the tombstone is in error.
A farmer, and a lifelong resident of Lincoln County, Missouri, he enlisted in the 49th Missouri Volunteer Infantry at the age of 19.
