Alice May (Ziegler) Bales Crum, 64, of Grand Blanc, MI, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, at her home; she had formerly lived in the Lafayette area. Born at Tiffin, Seneca County, OH, on Nov. 16, 1931, she graduated as valedictorian of her class at Melmore High School. She entered Heidelberg College in Tiffin in 1949, and completed her bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1953.

Her first marriage was to Charles B. Bales, Jr. on May 30, 1954, at Tiffin, OH; he died Aug. 4, 1969. She then married James O. Crum on July 2, 1977, at Lafayette, IN, and he survives. They subsequently moved to Michigan.

Mrs. Crum's first job was at Purdue University, where she also studied for her master's degree. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Ohio Genealogical Society, and Grand Blanc Newcomers. She was an officer in the Grand Blanc Heritage Association.

Surviving with her husband are three sons from her first marriage, Jerry Bales, Thomas Bales, and Philip Bales; a stepdaughter, Susan (Mrs. Mike) Peake; her mother, Hattie Ziegler; two brothers, Arthur Ziegler and George Ziegler; two sisters, Mabel (Mrs. Orin) Lawrence and Lois Pippert; three grandchildren; also two daughters-in-law, Susan and Pam Bales. She was predeceased by her father, Calvin Ziegler. Service at First Congregational United Church of Grand Blanc with internment in the church's memorial garden.

Gravesite Details

Obit states she was to buried in Grand Blanc, MI, but I fround no memorial for her there. Tippecanoe Memory office records state that she IS buried here.
