Departed this life on the morning of August 25, 2001, William Elliott Hutson, a retired real estate broker, owner of William Means Company, and husband of Mary Battle Parsons Means Hutson. Residence: Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs.
William Elliott Hutson are invited to attend the Funeral Services of the former in St. Michaels Episcopal Church on Monday, August 27, 2001, at eleven-thirty o'clock. Interment: Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Hutson was born on October 18, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina,
the son of William Elliott Hutson and Katherine Critchfield Hutson. He was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, a graduate of Charleston High, a 1943 graduate of the College of Charleston, and served as Captain in the 11th Airborne Division, United States Army, during World War II. Mr. Hutson was awarded the Bronze Star for service in the Paratroops in the Philippines preparing for the invasion of Japan. He was also a member of the College of Charleston Board of Trustees, Board member of the College Foundation, and was
elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of Charleston for his services. Mr. Hutson was a former Kiwanian, he served on the Boards of South Carolina Association of Real Estate Brokers, Greater Charleston Board of Realtors, the Plantation Society, Yeamans Hall Club, Lowcountry Open Land Trust, Historic Charleston Foundation, and the Charleston Museum. He was also a member of the Board of First National Bank, South Carolina National Bank, and was a Trustee Emeritus Wachovia Bank. Mr. Hutson served on
the Board of Governors of the Airport Commission and the Charleston County Aviation Authority. He was past President of the Charleston Club, St. Georges Society, St. Cecelia Society, and Past Commodore Carolina Yacht Club.Mr. Hutson is survived by his wife of 54 years who lives in Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Mary Battle Hutson Sikkema of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; one son-in-law, Kenneth P. Sikkema; three grandchildren, Elliott Hutson Sikkema, Caroline Means Sikkema, and Allen Joseph Sikkema; and one brother, Henry Critchfield Hutson.Memorials may be made to the Confederate Home, 62 Broad Street, Charleston, South Carolina, 29401 or the charity of one's choice.
