Augustus Homer Brown was born 14 Apr 1860 in Topsham, Sagadahoc, Maine, which is close to Brunswick, Cumberland, Maine, where he moved to before the 1870 census.

He appears in the 1860 census in Topsham as a four-month-old with his father, Joseph Brown, and his mother, Lydia Ann Merritt, and two siblings—a brother Joseph H Brown and a sister Ella Frances Brown. (Another brother named Augustine Brown was born in 1849 but had died before 1860.)

In 1880 he is living with his mother, his sister, and his maternal grandfather, who was age 87 at the time.

He went to Harvard in the 1880s and became a physician.

He married Mary Jeanette Robison on 29 May 1889 in Manhattan, New York, New York.

His wife had started her acting career about five years before this and was known as May Robson. She had a son still living, Edward (b 1876), by her first husband.

Augustus lived almost exactly 80 years and closed his eyes in death on 2 Apr 1920 in Bayside, Queens, New York. His widow survived him 22 years.
