Born on January 30, 1927 in Grasonville, MD she was the daughter of the late Edward Franklin Clevenger and Sadie Leola Saddler Clevenger. She was a graduate of Stevensville High School class of 1947. As a young girl she worked for the Matapeake Ferry System. On January 17, 1948 she married John R. Thomas and they would reside in Grasonville, MD and Freida worked as a waitress for Fisherman's Inn until 1951. In that year she worked with the Queen Anne's County Board of Education as an instructional aide and bus driver for 26 years. During her retirement she continued to substitute with children with special needs and for many years volunteered with Hospice at Estate Treasures. She enjoyed her annual trips to Florida each winter with family and friends. She was a member of the Knights of Pythians Sisters, Ladies Auxiliary VFW 7464, and women of the moose Bay County Chapter 1696.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John R. Thomas of Grasonville, MD; Sons Danny E. Thomas of Grasonville, MD and Richard Thomas (Bonnie) of Holtwood,PA. She was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters; William Clevenger (1983), Bud Clevenger (1999), Dorothy Clough (1999), Shirley O'Donnell (2000) and Marlin Clevenger (2000).

A visitation will be held from 6PM to 8PM on Friday April 7, 2017 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, PA in Centreville, MD where a funeral service will be held on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 11AM. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, MD. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Compass Reginal Hospice, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
