Herman Lee Dunn, 106, a retired horticulturist, died 09May1984, at Maryvale Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.
Mr. Dunn, a resident of Glendale Care Center since 1981, was born in Piper City, IL, & moved to Yountown 15 years ago. He operated greenhouse & flower businesses in Gilman, IL, & later raised hybrid & experimental flowers & trees. Beginning with his 100th birthday, the Phoenix Scottish Pipe Band has performed every year for Mr. Dunn. The group made him an honorary member 2 years ago.
Mr. Dunn held several Democratic Party posts in Illinois & was a charter member of the IL Farm Bureau. He played coronet in a band for more than 20 years. He volunteered to serve in the Spanish American War in 1898 but did not see battle.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughter, Barbara Border; a sister; & 2 granddaughters.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave.
