Millie Abbott Guinn, 96, died peacefully at home in her granddaughter's arms Saturday, August 23 2014 of natural causes. Born to Myron and Martha Abbott in Mesquite, NV on October 29th 1917, Millie was the 3rd of 5 children but the first child to reach adulthood. She met her life-long sweetheart Robert F. Guinn when she was 14 and cheerleading for a home-game. Robert was visiting in town while working on a survey crew. A spark was lit, despite a stormy first encounter, and for the next 5 years they wrote to one another. They married and moved to Reno, NV in 1936. Several years later, they built their first house together with their own hands on a small lot in Sparks. Impressively well planned and sturdily constructed, it was there they raised their family. They sold the home and moved back to Reno in 1968. Robert passed away in 1979 and Millie spent the next 35 years of her life as an active and very beloved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The changes during her life-span are hard to imagine. As a child, drinking and bathing water were captured in a cistern, floors were hard-packed dirt, wood stoves were used for cooking, kerosene for lighting and outhouses were moved and holes re-dug every few years. She lived through the great depression, WWII, Vietnam and the moon landing. She witnessed an incredible expansion of technology and eventually owned both a cell phone and a laptop.

Millie Guinn had many wonderful talents and gifts but the two that will likely be remembered most were her amazing gratitude and kindness. She is much loved and missed.

Millie is survived by her sister Shirley Ann Syphus, daughter Gwenlyn Guinn, son Monte Lee Guinn, grandchildren Marni, Scott, Shawn, and Tom, great-grandchildren Verrinia, Lexi, Ashley and Hannah and great-great-grandsons Mathew and Leland.

Services will be held Wednesday September 3rd at the LDS Church, 1095 Golconda Dr. Reno NV 89509. 10am viewing, 11am Memorial Service and Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
