John "Emmett" Baker, 86, died suddenly Sunday, March 15, 2015 at his home. Born January 13, 1929 to Marvin "Jack" and Margaret (Mason) Baker in Lincoln, NE. March 10, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart Joan Baker (same maiden name). They had four children. He was a mechanic at heart and loved cars. He loved to tell stories about dragging down "O" Street with flames out his tail pipes against "Speedy" Bill Smith. His other passion was bowling which he had done for 67 years. He bowled the first 700 series ever recorded in Lincoln, many years ago. No matter how bad his aches and pains were, he never gave up. He bowled the Friday before he died.

Emmett worked at Western Electric until they moved operations to Omaha. He then went to work for Goodyear as his father did and worked there until he retired. In his spare time he rebuilt cars, build houses, home additions, soap box derby cars, hunted, fished, wore out many cameras, watch the Cubs play, and attended every game he could of his children's, grandchildren's and even great grandchildren's. He loved his family. One of his last jobs was to take care of his wife for more than fifteen years. He was frequently called a "Saint".

Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Richard Baker and his brothers-in-law Harlan (Duke) and Orvin Baker.

Memorial service at 10:00am, Monday, March 23, 2015 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Lincoln, NE. Memorials to Capital City Christian Church.
