Deloris D. Goshert, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 1:30 PM in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana.
DeDe, as she was known, was born February 13, 1928 in Carmel, Indiana. She was one of three daughters born to Richard C. and Sadie (Bishop) Hume.
DeDe was a 1945 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Grace College with a major in education. She later earned a Master’s Degree from Indiana University with a major in Library Science.
On November 3, 1946, in Richmond, Indiana, DeDe married her high school sweetheart, William E. “Bill” Goshert. They would share 67 years of building a life together until his passing May 12, 2014.
She lived in Warsaw most of her life. DeDe taught Senior English first and then went on to be the librarian at Warsaw High School – all together for 25 years retiring June 1, 1996.
Her love of music was exemplified by her years as a choir director for various churches including Trinity United Methodist Church (Warsaw) Church of God (Warsaw) and Presbyterian Church (Portland, Indiana). She held several positions within the churches she attended. She was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church for the last 3 years of her life. Before moving to Warsaw, she led a swing choir in Portland as well as the Jay County Chorus. She was also a member of the Kosciusko County Extension Chorus. Additionally, DeDe was a cheerleading sponsor and an avid reader.
She leaves sweet memories to those who loved and knew her best including her son and daughter-in-law: Rocky and Joy Goshert, Warsaw; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Taylor Seward of Winona Lake, Indiana; and Sherry and Charles Stultz of South Bend, Indiana. There are 7 grandchildren: 6 grandsons and their wives (and fiancée): Brody and Katie Shively, Plymouth, Indiana; Cale and Cindy Shively of Noblesville, Indiana; Jeff and Allyson Stultz, Cincinnati, Ohio; Brian and Kelly Stultz, South Bend; Cody Goshert and his fiancée, Mary London Carswell of Atlanta, Georgia; Drake Klopfenstein of Leesburg, Indiana; and 1 granddaughter: Taylor Goshert of Marion, Indiana; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 nieces: Earleen Nelson of Battle Creek, Michigan and Marleen and Jack Wilbur of Wilmington Island, North Carolina.
In addition to her husband, Bill, DeDe was preceded in death by her parents: Richard C. and Sadie Hume and her 2 sisters: Estal Apple and Crystal Frye.
You are welcome to join family and friends as they gather at Titus Funeral Home for a time of sharing in support of one another on Friday, May 29th from 5-8 PM. There will be a celebration of DeDe’s life Saturday, May 30th beginning at 11 AM in the funeral home. The service will be led by Cindi (Carey) Webb, a longtime family friend. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana.
The family has asked that gifts in DeDe’s memory be made to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1196.
