Louisa was born in Oct of 1860 in Key West, Florida. Her parents were Charles H. Berry who was born in England and Melissa Roberts who was born in the Bahamas. Louisa's father was a Confederate Navy sailor. He died on 27 May 1863 after a boiler explosion on the C.S.S. Chattahoochee near Blountstown, Florida on the Apalachicola River. Her father was buried at Chattahoochee, Florida. Her mother died sometime before the taking of the census in July of 1870. Louisa was living with her aunt and uncle and grandmother. Her mother's sister was Missouri and she was married to Jules Chabert. Jules was a Confederate Veteran and had been on the C.S.S. Chattahoochee with her father.
