Per Florence (Moore) Duggan (1922-2004): "Alex was buried behind the Moore Ridge School under a tree that stood in front of the old house where they lived. Charlie Oliveaux lived in the house when she was a child, and they were always told it was "spooky" so everyone stayed away." Some records say he is buried at Start Cemetery, but no marker has been found there. He was married 13 May 1883 to Annie May ABRAUGH (1863-1944).

Per family tradition, Alex was stabbed to death by Jim Eppinette,, the result of a long standing feud between the Moore and Eppinette families. The Eppinette's arranged a dance to get Alex out and that is where the stabbing took place.

DIED FROM KNIFE WOUNDS
Alex Moore who was cut at a dance near Boeuf River shortly after Christmas, died Friday and was buried yesterday. It is alleged that Moore went to the dance in an intoxicated condition and that he persisted in raising trouble which finally ended in the fatal fray which, according to reports, was participated in by half a dozen others. More (sic) it is said, began my trying to set fire to the negro musician's head. This grew tame and he is said to have kicked the violin from the negro's hands and smashed it when the negro refused to play a certain tune. Other men at the dance, driven to desperation, undertook to quit Moore when he began fighting. A free-for-all fight began and when the melee was over Moore was found cut all to pieced nearly.
