After moving to Denton in 1958, Mrs. Sparkman worked at the Denton State School where she retired in 1976. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Denton. She was an avid quilter and member of the quilt guild at the church. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Jan Sparkman of Boulder, Colo., daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Steve Woods of Denton, daughter, Suzanne Tipton of Sanger; grandchildren include Wendy Woods Perkins and her husband Ed of Gainesville, Ryan Robinson of Vidor, Tess Sparkman of Fort Worth and Shane and Benjamin Sparkman, both of Boulder, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Cody Perkins of Gainesville; sisters, Bertie Calhoun of Benton, La., Bette Anderson of Denton, Greta Wylie of Weatherford and Shirley Kennemer of Denton; brother, Claude Speake of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Bobby Joe Sparkman; and infant daughter, Tommie Lou Sparkman; also by sisters, Mildred Hundley and Mary Katherine Martin; and brothers, Roy Herman Speake Jr., Sterling Speake and Robert Speake.
