Born at Gellenhausen, near Frankfurt am Main. Came to the United States at the age of three, where his family settled in Fredericksburg.

The Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free, and Accepted Masons of Virginia described Mr. Bauman as "a fine and critical musician, master of several European languages, and a forceful speaker, familiar with the best literature."

Mr. Bauman lived, for a time, in Philadelphia, where he was a businessman. It was there he joined the Lutheran Church, of which he remained a member for the rest of his life.

Upon returning to Fredericksburg, he went into business and was well known as an honest and upright man.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary B. Bauman, one daughter, Miss Cordelia Bauman, and four sons, Charles F., Albert R., Kuszner, and John. He was also survived by two brothers, Charles F. and John.

Mr. Bauman was an active Mason, who served nine terms as Master of the Arlington Lodge, No. 102. He founded a number of lodges, and serves as Master of the Bauman and the Westmoreland Lodges.
