Larry Don Neer, Sr., was born June 30, 1943, in Oklahoma City and passed away March 24, 2011, in Oklahoma City at age 67.
Larry was reared in the Sparks area, attending Chandler High School. After graduation he attended Central State College in Okmulgee, training as a plumber.
He worked for several companies as a plumber, subsequently opening Neer's Plumbing in Chandler. He later became an employee of the Department of Transportation of the State of Oklahoma, as a building maintenance supervisor. He worked there until his retirement in 1995.
Larry was also a member of the Oklahoma National Guard, 1 Battalion, 160 Field Artillery, Chandler unit. He retired after 20 years in 1992.
He also retired after 20 years as a volunteer firefighter for the township of Sparks and served as a member of Lincoln County Civil Defense.
Larry enjoyed dancing, hunting and fishing as hobbies. Although he maintained several lifelong friendships from his school days, his primary interest was his family. He was very hardworking, loving, kind and very sensitive to the needs of others. He lived in Sparks for most of his life, moved to Shawnee/Tecumseh about the year 2000, in 2006 moving to Oklahoma City where he presently resided.
Although he had no religious affiliation, he was a believer in God and after studying the Bible had a strong belief in the resurrection hope to a new life that Jehovah God promises.
He married Patricia Francis DiGiacinto Dec. 17, 1964, and of that marriage there were two children. They divorced in 1984. On Nov. 26, 1987, he married Patricia Ann Daniels.
He was survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Neer, of the home; mother, Mildred Neer, of Sallisaw; son, Larry Don Neer, Jr. and wife, Jaylynn, of Blanchard; daughter, Sherri Curtis and husband, Jimmy, of Little Elm, Texas; step-daughter, Dana Jo Robertson and husband, Bob, of Oklahoma City; brothers, Michael Neer and wife, Gloria, of Sallisaw, and Bruce Neer and wife, Linda, of Gore; grandchildren, Danielle Morris and husband, Sean, Justin and Jessica Curtis, Jordan Neer and Madison Daniels; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Sean William Morris; and many other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ned Neer, and sister, Kathy Neer.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, at John M. Ireland Funeral Home Chapel, located at 120 S. Broadway in Moore. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home.
