Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at McGilley and Hoge Chapel in Overland Park, Kan. Private entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Lenexa, Kan. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Scherer was born May 21, 1924, in Sergeant Bluff, to Allen Morton and Rose Gertrude (Law) Certain. She attended and graduated from public school in Sergeant Bluff in 1942. She attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb. After college, she worked the following three years at the Sioux City Air Force Base. She flew for Mid-Continental Airlines as a stewardess for two years before marrying.
She was widowed twice; her second husband, Hank Scherer, was the love of her life. Hank preceded her in death in January 1998.
She met Hank during her employment as a collection specialist at a local attorney's office, he was her supervisor. She continued her career in that field, working for various local companies. At the time of her retirement, she worked for one of the local hospitals in Kansas City, Kan.
After retirement, she spent many years volunteering her services for the Kansas City Zoo Docents and Powell Gardens. She was an honorary member of the Ladies Provost Club 319.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Rae Ann and John Carney of Prairie Village, Kan., and their children, Bridgette, Patrick and Ryan, and Alison and Steve Dugan of Lenexa, Kan., and their children, Cerise, Kristen and Shelley; six great-grandchildren with two more expected in October 2004; and a sister and her husband, Bonnie and Conrad Cameron of Leesburg, Fla., and their children, Britt Cameron of Des Moines and Kim Barnes of North Canton, Ohio, and their spouses and children.
The family respectfully requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS. 66208-0076.
We pray that she rest in peace and that she and Hank are together.
