He retired in 1967 from the forge shop after 40 years at the former John Deere Planter Works, Moline. He was instrumental in organizing the United Auto Workers at the John Deere plant.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Deloris, Arlene and Frances; sons, Frank and Jimmy; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grand-children; and a sister, Margaret VanDeVoorde.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy.
