Margaret Rutherford Yancey, 95, of Disputanta, VA. , widow of the late Clyde Walton (C.W.) Yancey, died Thursday June 20, 2002 at the Mayfair House in Petersburg. Nieces and nephews of her and her late husband's family survive her. She is the daughter of the late William Samuel Rutherford and the late Sallie Anne Carter Rutherford of Goochland County. In August 1929, she graduated from State Teachers College in Farmville (now Longwood College) with a Diploma in Kindergarten-Primary Education. She became a schoolteacher and taught in Goochland and Prince George Counties. At one time, she taught seven grades in a one room school. She was beloved by her students, many of whom continued to contact her from time to time. She and her late husband have made significant charitable gifts to the Southeastern 4-H Educational Center, Wakefield, VA., including the donation of several buildings at the center. She and her late husband were long-time members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Disputanta. She is well known for her kindness to others and is much loved by her family and friends in her community and church. Remains rest at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, where the funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, the Rev. Burton White will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park, Patterson Av. and Gaskins Rd., Richmond. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Disputanta, VA. 23842
