Doris King, 93 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan. Doris was born on July 1, 1921 near Sticklerville, Missouri to Charles and Clara (Clubine) Arnold. On July 4, 1942 she married Junior King in Kirksville, Missouri, he preceded her in death on January 9, 2005. Survivors include: One daughter, Phyllis King of Overland Park, Kansas; one granddaughter, Julie Burdick of Merriam, Kansas; one great granddaughter, Ava Burdick of Shawnee, Kansas; and a cousin, Donald McCollum of Ashland, Missouri. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; one daughter, Beverly Burdick; a grandson, Tim Burdick; 2 brothers, Max Arnold and Claude Arnold; a step sister, Eula Fern Arnold; and a step brother, Roy Arnold.
Doris has lived most of her life in Sullivan County. She grew up near Winigan, then she and Junior moved to their farm, North of Milan, in 1949. She was a member of the Bairdstown United Methodist Church. Doris belonged to the Extension Club, and was active in Green Hills 4-H with her children. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She played pitch and did a lot of embroidery. Doris loved to cook and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at the Bairdstown Cemetery, Northwest of Milan. A visitation is scheduled for an hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM.
