Mary married George Edwin Sappenfield on July 14, 1945, in Covington, Troy Township, Fountain County, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1989.
Mary's family and friends were very dear to her. Mary worked as a homemaker, mother of nine children, nursing home assistant and completed the many duties of being a farmer's wife. She loved flowers, especially roses, caring for her horses, sewing and quilting. Mary won awards while competing in the men's contests of rail splitting and pulling logs at Billie Creek Village.
She is survived by eight children: Duane Sappenfield, Sarah Whitlock (Bennet), Elaine Pastore, Jeane Brown (Gary), Doug Sappenfield (RuthAnn), Gloria Dee Farrington (Ward), Andy Sappenfield and Greg Sappenfield. Also Surviving are twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Valerie Susan Benavidez Hinojos; one grandson, Brett Sappenfield, two sons-in-law, Phil Britton and Marion J "Mono" Pastore; one daughter-in-law, Linda Gay Sappenfield and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 East High Street, Rockville, with Pastor Mark Houvenagle officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville.
