November 26, 1846 issue of the Lime Rock Gazette, Rockland, Maine:

"INQUEST - The body of Capt. Francis Haskell, of the schooner Mars of Thomaston, ME was found floating in the dock at Drake's wharf, Sea Street, on Saturday afternoon.

He was last seen alive on Thursday evening when he was very much intoxicated, though when at home he is represented as being a very temperate and worthy man. An inquest was held over the body by coroner Charles Smith, and a verdict rendered in accordance with the circumstances. (Boston Post)"
