Jacob Henry Mayer, proprietor of West Spruce Fruit Farm in Leavenworth, was born at Easton, Kan., July 24, 1884, the son of C. C. and Hattie (Gale) Mayer. He farmed with his father, and they conducted a nursery for a few years, putting out an orchard of 35 acres. He and his father C. C. Mayer sold out in Easton in 1905 and went to High Prairie Township, where they purchased a 120-acre farm six miles southwest of Leavenworth. In 1912 Jacob settled on a farm of 40 acres, on which he had fruit trees and raised alfalfa and strawberries.

In October 1911 he married Emma Burre of High Prairie Township, a daughter of John and Catherine Burre. The Mayers were parents of Lenora, Helen Marie and Luella.
