Dr. J. W. F. Wilkinson, 91, resided on Wood Street, Clarion, before retiring, died at 2 a. m. Sunday in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A son of Nathan Wilkinson, Dr. Wilkinson was born in June, 1865. He was married August 23, 1893, to Martha Stewart, who preceded him in death.

Dr. Wilkinson was a teacher at the Clarion Normal School, now Clarion State Teachers College, from 1898 to 1904, when he was promoted to dean of instruction. He also taught mathematics.

He retired in 1933, after 35 years of service with the college -- the longest record of service of any faculty member there. His first school assignment as teacher was in 1895 in Shelburne Falls, Mass., where he was principal of a preparatory school. In 1896, he became supervisor of mathematics in a Brooklyn, N. Y., school. In the following year, he was elected principal in the elementary school system of Rahway, N. Y. In 1898, he taught mathematics at West Chester State Normal School. At the end of the term he transferred to Clarion.

Dr. Wilkinson was a member the Methodist Church of Clarion; Clarion Lodge No. 277, F. and A. M.; Coudersport Consistory and Knights Templar of Oil City. He also was a past president of the Clarion Thrift Plan; past lieutenant-governor of the Kiwanis Club, charter member of the Clarion Kiwanis Club, and past president of the Pennsylvania Society of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Dr. Wilkinson was one of the oldest alumni of Princeton University. He received his doctor's degree from Grove City College.

Surviving are his second wife, Ella C. Wilkinson of St. Petersburg; a daughter, Mrs. Clair E. Strohocker of Bethlehem; a daughter-in-law. Mrs. Jean Wilkinson, Akron, Ohio. Also surviving are nine grandchildren. An only son preceded his father in death.

The body will arrive Friday at the Goble Funeral Home, Clarion.
