Hannah was the daughter of Theodore Brown (1793-1863) and Ruth Collins (1794-1878). She was born in Vermont and migrated west with her family, stopping first in Ohio and then moving on to Wisconsin.

On 17 Aug 1842, she married William S. Tuttle, near Granville in Licking County, Ohio. The date and location were confirmed in Hannah's application for a widow's pension in 1892.

By 1849, the growing family was in Eden, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and by 1870 they were firmly established in Wrightstown, Brown Co., Wisconsin.

Hannah and William had 16 known children together. [Note: William had 4 known children from his previous marriage to Lucy (Gray) Herriman: Lucy, Oliver, Stephen, and Lewis - 2 of whom, Oliver and Stephen, Hannah raised from a young age.]

After William's death in 1883, it appears that Hannah relocated to Emerald in St. Croix county. By 1895, six of her surviving children were residing in Emerald, Cylon, Glenwood City, or nearby in Dunn County.

She passed away in Emerald on 12 May 1896. Her death record states she was buried in Dunn Cemetery, which is now known as Mound Cemetery. No headstone exists and the exact location of her grave is not known.

Her death notice appeared in The Glenwood Tribune, 14 May 1896, pg 1, col 8: "Mrs. Tuttle mother of Ed and W. S. Tuttle of this city died at her home in the town of Emerald, Tuesday and will be buried today from the Methodist church. She was well along in years and an old resident of this section and her funeral will no doubt call out a large crowd."
