Mrs. Carrie Wolfe Atkins Casstevens, age 94, of Dobson passed away on Friday morning May 14, 2015 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy. She was born in Surry County on June 2, 1920 to the late William Basley Wolfe and the late Betty Elizabeth Jones Wolfe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Ottis Atkins, her second husband Roy Casstevens, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She loved to make baskets and taught basket weaving at Surry Community College for over 10 years. Surviving are her two sons and daughters-in-law Wayne and Conchita Atkins, Dennis and Sandy Atkins, all of Dobson, NC; her four stepchildren Brenda and John Detert, of Hampton, VA, Christine Elliott of Boonville, Darlene and Larry Crews of Boonville, Roy Casstevens, Jr. of Boonville ; four grandchildren Angie and Richard Smith, Benji Atkins and special friend Angela Bradshaw, Niki and Craig Calhoun, Amanda and Sparky Hawks; five great grandchildren Olivia Smith, Brett Calhoun, Grant Smith, Levi Calhoun, and Jenna Hawks; one sister Hester Simpson, of Ararat, NC; one brother and sister-in-law Ira and Clara Wolfe of Mt. Airy, NC; a special caregiver Brenda Collins Hardy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday May 16, 2015 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Dan Merritt, Dr. Andy Atkins and Dr. Blue Brian will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:30 until the time of her service at 2:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
