MUNCIE- Tracy Hopkins Norris, retired Executive Director of University Relations and Communications at Ball State University, passed away, Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Tracy was born in Ainsworth, Iowa on November 1, 1927. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He graduated from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa and received a MA degree from the University of Iowa.

Tracy served four institutions of higher education during his career. He was admissions counselor at Cornell College, intern in News and Information Service at University of Iowa, Director of Publicity at Wittenberg University, and from 1970 until his retirement Director of University Relations at Ball State University. In 1967 he received the coveted Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America.

Tracy was a member and former president of Muncie Exchange, former president of the Association of Lifelong Learners, former president of the Indiana College Public Relations Association. He served as archivist for the six-state District Five of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE 5). He held a Lifetime Membership Award and a Special Merit Award from CASE. He served CASE and the American College Public Relations Association (ACPRA) as national trustee, district director, program chair, district newsletter editor and district secretary.

Following retirement from Ball State he volunteered at Ball Hospital, Cardinal Greenway, and United Way. He is a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a member of their council and as an officer of the Holy Trinity Foundation.

He is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Emilie; his son, Shawn Tracy Norris, Lutheran Campus Pastor at University of Kansas; and two grandchildren, Steven Norris and Kathryn Norris of Lawrence, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by a son Harold Lee, his parents, Ruth and Lee Norris and by his brothers, Norbert and Norval.

A memorial service of Remembrance and Gratitude will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 White River Blvd. Cremation has taken place and entombment of ashes will take place at a later date in Ainsworth Cemetery.

Friends may call at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
