Rebecca Bennett (Bennit or Bennet)

Wife of Albert Bennett (Bennet)

Having done considerable research on the matter, it is believed that this is the headstone and grave for the Rebecca Bennett that some records say was initially buried in the Old Red Meeting House Cemetery, also known as the Old White Meeting House Yard, the Old Holmdel Yard and/or the Old Bennett Cemetery that is located elsewhere in Holmdel, NJ, on Middletown Road.

She and her husband, Albert, were reinterred from there to this location at the Holmdel Cemetery and Mausoleum. The book "New Jersey Graveyard and Gravestone Inscriptions Locators MONMOUTH COUNTY" states that numerous graves from Old Holmdel Yard were moved to Holmdel Cemetery because they were not being properly maintained at Old Holmdel Yard. I've searched Old Holmdel Yard and neither are there.

A file located in the Archives Library at the Monmouth County Historical Association in Freehold, NJ contains notes from P. D. Staats from July 15th and 16th 1910 who did a compilation of inscriptions and locations of some of the graves at this cemetery. This record shows that both Rebecca's and Alberts's headstones were at this location at that time. I checked with the onsite office for Holmdel Cemetery and Mausoleum to try to verify matters but they have no records of what graves were transferred to their facility.
