When Larry was one year old, he moved with his family from Wetmore, Colorado to Conway Springs, Kansas where he started elementary school. After his parents separated, he moved with his mother and step-father to Atchison, Kansas, Collinsville, Illinois, then to Pasadena, Texas, where he attended high school. It was there that he met and married his first wife, Monica Taylor in 1970. They moved to Carlsbad, California, where their daughter Shanel was born. They later divorced. Larry then married Adrienne Didonato in San Diego County, California in 1981. They had two sons, Ryan and Aaron. Larry enjoyed the ocean, surfing, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed raising game chickens. He was talented at carpentry and remodeling, a career he pursued throughout his entire life.
