Joseph Slaton died at the home of his niece Mrs. J. F. Butcher of Handley, Thursday morning. Mr. Slaton was eighty-five years old. After last rites were held at 1 pm Thursday at Handley, the funeral party left for Ennis for interment in the Myrtle Cemetery. Mr. Slaton’s father was buried in the Myrtle Cemetery in 1875. He was an uncle of County Auditor Jack Neal of this city.
Reagor Springs was the home of Joseph W. Slaton for some time, fifty years ago. From this point he moved to Birmingham, Ala., and returned to Texas only ten years ago. When he returned to Texas Mr. Slaton lived at Commerce and Handley.
The deceased is survived by a nephew and niece, G. A. (Jack) Neal of Waxahachie and Mrs. J. F. Butcher of Handley, Mrs. A. V. McGlathery of Birmingham, Ala., sister, also survives Mr. Slaton, who was a bachelor.
