David Newton Richards, an 80 year retired carpenter died following his former trade Saturday afternoon when a minor roof patch job at his home resulted in his death. David N Richards of R7, near Red Top Cabins, fell from the roof at 2 pm Saturday while working on the repair job. He was rushed to St Elizabeth hospital where he died three hours later. Coroner Dr Robert E Williams listed internal injuries as the cause of death.

Born at Stockwell, he was a life long resident of the community. He was first married to Mabel Penrod in 1902. She died in 1926, in 1931 he married Frances Smith, who survives.

Besides the widow, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs Alfred Nickolson, Mrs Glen Conner, Mrs Robert Hanner, Benton Harbor Michigan; Mrs Wilbur Tyrie, Boone Iowa; and Mrs Mary Miller,
Lafayette; two sons, Gordon and David, both of Lafayette, and a sister Mrs James Shepard of Lafayette, 16 grad-children 13 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

s/o Isaac Richards and Julia Hatfield. Died of injuries from falling off roof of home near Red top Cabins, Tippecanoe county, Indiana. Married Bessie Mabel Penrod, Jun 1903, married 2nd Frances L Wilson Smith, 1931.
