Son of William Harrison Gunn and Martha A. Godard. He married Minerva Virginia Ponder on June 20, 1869 in Monroe County. His Grave may be un-marked. He is buried here according to his death certificate.

He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 4th Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters on April 15, 1864. He is incorrectly listed in the records as Colquitt Gum. He was transferred to Company A, 4th Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters in September or October 1864 and appears as W. C. Gunn in the records of that company. He was transferred to Company B, 54th Georgia Consolidated Infantry April 1865. He surrendered with the Army of Tennessee at Greensboro North Carolina on April 26, 1865. He was paroled in Greensboro May 1, 1865.
