Deborah Jane Bohr was born February 28, 1955, the daughter of "Cy" Richard Earl and Mickey Joanne (Pierce) Bohr in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1973 and attended two years at Muscatine Community College. She married Jeffery Jannings on March 10, 1990 in Tipton, Iowa. Together they had one daughter, Kelly Jo.

When Deborah was growing up, she showed purebred Shorthorn Cattle. She is a lifetime member of Farm Bureau, and also was a member of 4-H most of her life. Deborah has had a heart for racing since she was 7-years-old, having grown up watching races and cheering on her dad as he raced. Her first official job was in 1974 for the Eldon Raceway, working alongside her father. Throughout her life, Deborah worked for numerous tracks in the Midwest for various promotors, including Al Frieden and Kathy Dlouhy. Deborah was also the Administrative Coordinator for NASCAR Dirt Racing (the Busch All-Star Series), working as the head scorer and bookkeeper for the Central Midwest Region. Deborah once scored a Busch race at Daytona, Florida and was even offered a job working for NASCAR at Daytona, but decided to stay in Iowa where her family, friends, and roots were planted. Her career in racing lasted over 40 years. She worked for Community State Bank, Citizens State Bank and the Tipton Country Club. She was a Nutritionist and worked for the Athletic Department in the Wilton School District in Wilton, Iowa. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and appropriately named her beloved cat, "Hawkeye." Above all, she loved spending time with her husband and daughter.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffery Jannings of Walcott; one daughter, Kelly Jo Jannings of Walcott; her mother-in-law, Bernice Jannings of Davenport; one sister, Cindy (Kirk) Sissel of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Diana (Jeff) Fischlein of Lost Nation; one niece, Shanna Sissel, and her daughter, Tru of Tipton; two nephews, Marshall (Amy) Fischlein of Lost Nation, and Bryon (Kelly) Pesis of Battletown, KY; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Richard Jannings, and one nephew, Sgt. Aaron J. Sissel, who died in the Iraqi war in 2003.
