She was born April 17, 1939, in Quincy, Illinois, to Amuel and Hazel Daniels Compton. She married Charles Tomlinson on Nov. 12, 1981. He preceded her in death.
Shirley was a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Church of God in Chaffee.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Compton of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Eric Keys of Chaffee; six daughters, Ronann Luttrell, Candy Witcher, Leslie Palmer and Loretta Arnzen of Chaffee, Cora Miller of Thebes, Illinois, and Sarah St. Clair of Benton, Missouri; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Ainsworth.
The funeral was Saturday at the Church of God, with the Rev. Tom Morris officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Mounds City National Cemetery in Mounds, Illinois.
