Della Marian Ashmann (nee Jutkus), forever young, died peacefully Monday evening March 24, 2008. She is survived by her four loving children daughter, Nikki Horka of Griffith, and three sons; Jon (Susan) Ashmann of Northbrook, IL, Don of Chicago, IL and Mark of Griffith, IN. Della left behind four grandchildren; Randy (Veronica) Horka of Crown Point, IN and Aaron, Steven and Elizabeth Ashmann of Northbrook, IL. Della also has a nine month old great-grandson, Maddux Horka. Also surviving is one sister, Eileen (Milan) Bacan of Griffith, IN. she was preceded in by her husband Don, parents Frank and Petronela Jutkus; sister Beatrice; and brother Frank.
Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland, with Rev. Edward Moszur officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.
Della Was born May 26th and Raised in Indiana Harbor. She was an honors student at East Chicago Washington High School ranking 3rd in her graduating class. Prior to marrying Don, she was a legal secretary for several years. Della and her family moved to Highland, in 1957, where she was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Church and active in the Altar and Rosary Sodality.
Della was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose life was devoted to her family. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles (in ink), reading mystery novels, shopping and traveling. An excellent cook, she specialized in preparing traditional Lithuanian dishes in her own mothers style. Della's smile, twinkling eyes, and dimples were most captivating, and her sense of humor was unmatched. She will be dearly missed, to say the least. A special thank you is extended to everyone at Holy Family Villa in Palos Park, IL . Della's final years were enriched by the tender care she received from the aids, nurses, and all staff members.
