Patricia “Patty” Kaye Danielson, 63, of Viroqua, passed away Sunday morning, May 3, 2015, surrounded by family at the Bland-Bekkedal Center for Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Patty was born November 14, 1951, in Crookston, MN, to John and Anges (Brolsma) Cowell. She graduated from Crookston High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

While attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Patty met her husband, Michael “Mike” Danielson. They were married on June 14, 1975 at Esofea Park. In 1977, Mike and Patty decided to make Viroqua home and purchased a beautiful old farm fixer upper in Purdy Valley. This is where they started their family and spent the majority of their time outside enjoying the wildlife and fresh valley air.

Patty was formerly employed as the Plant Manager of Viroqua Redi-Mix, the Office Manager of Dr. Henckle Dentist Office, and Registered Sanitarian for Vernon and La Crosse County for the past 23 years.

Patty was a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother. She spent her summers camping, mushroom hunting, biking, walking, taking buggy rides, and traveling to outdoor music festivals. Her winters were filled with many nights and weekends at the hockey arena: cheering, coaching, or playing on the Viroqua Senior Women’s League. Nothing could slow Patty down; she enjoyed road trips, family trips to her mother’s lake home, camping with family and friends, and cheering on the Badgers and Packers. Her most recent favorite pass time was keeping up with her four grandchildren.

Patty is survived by her husband Mike; two children Katie (Corey) Starr and Jon (Amy) Danielson, and her four grandchildren, Landen, Blake, Evan and Claire. Mother Agnes Johnstone, brother David (Karen) Cowell, sister Coleen (Jerry) Bitker, and many wonderful friends and relatives.

She was proceeded in death by her father John Cowell and stepfather Sheldon Johnstone.

The family would like to thank the employees and volunteers of the Bland-Bekkedal Center for their compassion and care.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 8, 2015 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Viroqua with Rev. Stephen Minnema officiating with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. Friday until time of service.
