Obituary from Jefferson Bee 3/16/1913, pg. 1:

Death of Russell McRoberts.

Abram Russell McRoberts was born in Kentucky, September 21, 1825, and departed this life at his home in this city on the morning of March 13, 1913, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 20 days. He was the third child of Michael and Mary Smith McRoberts, and was the last of this family to depart from this world. He left Kentucky in early boyhood with his parents and moved to Indiana. At the age of ten or eleven he went to live with his uncle in Illinois. In early manhood he came to Linn county, Iowa, with his parents, where he met and wedded his present beloved companion, Mary Fitz, September 12, 1855, whom he leaves to mourn his loss. They had one adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank Stotts, who was with him during his last sickness and administered to his wants. In 1868 they moved to Greene county, Iowa, which has since been their home. He was converted and joined the M.E. church in Illinois when he was 15 years old. He has not been able to attend church much of late owing to his health, but never lost his interest in the church or its work. He gave his family clear evidence that his Saviour was near him in his last sickness, and was ready and prepared to go. Uncle Russ as he was called by the public, was a friend to everybody, and it can truthfully be said that he lived in peace with all mankind. His life would be a good example for any young men to follow. He will be sadly missed by his aged companion. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.B. Guest. The floral offerings were beautiful and showed the love and esteem of relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in our beautiful little cemetery to wait the judgement day.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were as follows: F.M. Stotts and wife, Kanawha; Mesdames E.E. Huffman, Lison, L.A. Waln, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, J.W. Fitz and P.C. Cockerill and wife, J.E. Flack and wife, Mesdames Bert Willard and J.W. Wilson, of Jefferson; Mrs. Cora McIntosh, Boone; Alma Wilson, Glidden, S.R. Kersher, Dana, Iowa.
