I received this e-mail 1-3-2021 from Peter Sherwin which I think shows the burial of Hail Mason.
As you note in the memorial, Haile Mason was born 29 Oct 1751 in Swansea MA, the eldest son of Samson and Hannah (Haile) Mason. He, along with his parents and siblings, left Swansea sometime after his marriage there in 1769 to Hannah Pierce. All are next found in the the 1790 census in Westford/Fort Ann NY. Haile is also reported there in the census of 1800, 1810, and 1820, but then no record is found of him there, as well as no headstone.

So, it makes sense to look for him where one of his children lived. From the Samson Mason Genealogy, we know Haile had children Edy, Levi (b. 1773), Zephaniah, Gardner, Amos, Hale (b. 1775), Samson (b. 1793), Mary, Lurana, and Sally, and that at least Zephaniah and Gardner moved to Brutus, Cayuga, NY. The 1820 census shows Edy there, too, and then in neighboring Sennett (7 miles south) in 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860. (Let me know if you’d like copies of those census pages, but they are available on ancestry). And, there we find the father Haile. There is a headstone in the Sennett Rural Cemetery for “Hail Mason, died June 12, 1824 in the 74th year of his age.” Here is a link to the database for that cemetery, which has a link to the photo (also below). In that database, he is listed under both Mason, Hail and Hall, Mason. http://www.cayugagenealogy.org/cem/cem198/f_o.html Also, next to him is buried his grandson “Eddy son of Eddy and Olive Mason, died March 3, 1828, aged 5 years."

It therefore appears that in his later years, after 1820, he moved in with his grandson and most likely died in the same community in which he resided.
