Joe Hill Cantrell, Jr., 86, of Spartanburg, passed away into eternal rest on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Eden Terrace Assisted Living.

Born May 25, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Joe Hill Cantrell, Sr. and Ela (Berry) Cantrell. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Young Cantrell.

Joe retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after a 40-year career.

He was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church where he was active in the choir and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated his life to his family, church, and service to others.

Survivors include his daughters, Judy Moyer and husband Gene of Spartanburg, Janet Hunt and husband Bobby of Easley, Lori Crowley and husband Jim of Auburn, AL, and Lisa Preston of Spartanburg; a sister, Ann Cantrell Snyder of Burlington, NC; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by five sisters, Alice C. Burnett, Carolyn C. Bryant, Sara C. Hill, Josephine C. Wilson, and Evelyn Cantrell; and a brother, Jack Cantrell.

A Celebration of Life memorial service was held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2010, in the Sanctuary of Fernwood Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Dean Allen.

The family received friends following the service in the Welcome Center at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
