A longtime resident of Boone County, Iva was a 1949 graduate of Kirklin High School.
On April 7, 1951, she was married to Owen C. Witte in Lawton, Okla. Mr. Witte passed away on Nov. 13, 1999.
Iva was a devoted member of the Advance Community Christian Church. She and her husband wintered in Okeechobee for many years.
She had worked as a telephone operator in Elizaville, and with Western Insurance Company in Lebanon as a clerk.
She loved her family and enjoyed the time spent watching them play sports. In her spare time, Iva liked playing cards, reading, gardening, and watching Colts football and NASCAR races. She was an avid fan of Jeff Gordon.
Survivors include three children, Beth Duffey of Greenwood, Debra Lister of Lebanon and Charles “Chuck” Witte of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tom (Sheri) Lister of Lebanon, Brent (Jenny) Duffey and Teresa (Jon) Burris, all of Greenwood, and Samuel (Tasha) Gipson of Lebanon; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two brothers, John Emery Gibbs and William Groover Gibbs; six sisters, Anna Alice Collins, Louise Lucille Gibbs, Virginia Owens, June Richardson, Marguerite Michael and Luella Jane “Janie” Beck Parks; and one son–in-law, Terry Duffey.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Advance Community Christian Church, 2675 Ind. 75, Jamestown. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Steve Vitaniemi officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
