Armin John Tucker, son of the late John Dabner Tucker and Julia Marie Darble/, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the age of 88 years. Armin was born in Rolla on October 22, 1917. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Tetreau on November 27, 1941, and two children came to bless this union.

Armin graduated from the Missouri School of Mines in 1940, with a degree in Mining Engineering. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, during which he flew The Hump and received several medals and honors. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He continued his aviation career by becoming a pilot for Pan Am, retiring in 1977. He retired from the United States Army Air Reserves as a lieutenant colonel in 1977 as well. During his years at Pan Am, he was called back to serve as an ROTC instructor at Rutgers University, where he earned his MBA. Although he spent much of his life in Rolla, he also lived in New Jersey, Virginia, and New York. Armin was an active and well respected member of the Rolla community. He was a huge supporter of the University of Missouri-Rolla sports and academic programs, establishing the Armin and Norman Tucker Scholarship Fund and contributing to the renovation of the Gale-Bullman Multipurpose Building. He cared deeply about the Rolla community and its children by being involved in C.O.R.E. and Kiwanis.

Armin is survived by a daughter, Debra Sharp of Rolla; a brother, Norman Tucker of Rolla; a sister, Adele Heller of Rolla; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Freeman, Kimberly Matthews, Erik Tucker, Christopher Sharp, Kelly Sharp, and Michelle Sharp; 3 great grandchildren, Steven Harshbarger, J.R., Megan Harshbarger, and Kiersten Matthews; other relatives and countless friends. His wife, Jeanne, his son, John Tucker, and his sister, Helen Tucker Sands, preceded him in death.


Armin cared deeply about his family, his friends, and his community. He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a hard worker, and someone who always appreciated the things that life had to offer. He will truly be missed by many. Memorial services for Mr. Armin Tucker will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 16, 2006, at the University of Missouri-Rolla Havener Center in the St. Patrick's Ballroom C. Visitation for Armin will be at 1:00 P.M. preceding the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the MSM-UMR Armin and Norman Tucker Scholarship Fund.
