Bill J. Hamsher, 76, of Altamont, Kansas formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, June 10, 2006 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri.

Bill was born January 17, 1930 in Parsons, Kansas to Clarence and Ethel (Smith) Hamsher. He was raised in Parsons where he attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1947.

He married Devota Clark on November 24, 1946 in Independence, Kansas. She preceded Bill in death on December 11, 2003.

He began working for Montgomery Wards in 1956 and transferred to Hastings, Nebraska, where he retired in 1984. He later worked for the State of Nebraska. They moved back to Altamont in 2001.

Bill was an active member of the Jaycee's, 32nd Degree Mason, Eastern Star and Scottish Rite in Hastings, Nebraska.

Bill is survived by three children, Gary Hamsher of Lakewood, Colorado, Ceretha Hamsher of Altamont, Kansas, and Jolene Hamsher of Clearfield, Utah; one sister, Wilma Correl of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Robert Hamsher of Flint, Michigan; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allen; three brothers, and five sisters.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial Masonic graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery, NE of Cherryvale, Kansas.
