John was born in North Canton, OH, to John E. Grubb and Thelma (Mason) Grubb.
He excelled in sports through school and was awarded many high achievements including a nomination by Stark County Coaches to the All Five County Basketball Team.
After working as a driver/salesman with the Snyder Oil Company and as a patrolman for the city of Orrville, he relocated to San Jose, CA. He worked for Unocal Company as a sales representative for 30 years before retiring in 1994.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, photography, traveling, electronic gadgets, early morning walks, bird watching, and genealogy. He traced the Grubb family origins to 1540, with Thomas Grubb living in Stoke Climsland in Cornwall, England.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Evonne Kay Grubb; former wife, Marilyn Marie Marthey; and nephew, Mark Alan Replogle.
John is survived by Erna Grubb, his wife of 39 years; children, Barbara Clem, Valerie Alsip, Monica Grubb, and Michael Grubb; grandchildren, Stacy Hersh, Wendy and Dustin Humrichouser, Jonathon and Jacob Clem; two sisters, Dorothy Replogle and Mary Ann Besse; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at the Clovis Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at Clovis Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will be held at Arnold's Funeral Home in Hartville, OH, on Friday, June 16, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, June 17, 2006, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Arnold's Funeral Home on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
A graveside dedication will follow at St. Jacob's Cemetery where Ohio-branch Grubb descendents have been laid to rest since 1854.
The family respectfully requests that remembrances be made to the American Heart Association or to a favorite charity.
