Evelyn Mae Campbell,93, of Kearney died Wednesday, April 29,2015 at her home in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Saturday May 9th at 9:30 A.M. at Church of Christ in Kearney. Eddie Lee will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn was born July 29, 1921 on a farm near Overton, NE to Robert and Sylvia (Adams) Adams. When she was 6 years old her father passed away and the family moved to Lexington, NE. Evelyn was in the Fourth Grade when she started working in private home cleaning, doing the dishes and serving at parties. Her boss was always bragging and saying, "What a good worker!" She met her husband Jim when she was a junior in High School and graduated from Lexington High School in 1942. After Jim went into the service, at the beginning of WW II and Evelyn moved to Downey CA to live with her mother. When Jim returned home they were married in Norton, KS on December 12, 1945 and the couple moved to Kearney. She worked at the Nebraska Job Service for 25 years until retiring.
She was a member of Church of Christ in Kearney. She enjoyed crocheting, needlework, reading, watching the birds in her yard and going out to eat. Evelyn always helped with any project at the church and in later years when she couldn't physically do the work she contributed monetarily.
Surviving relatives include nieces, Donna Boose and husband George of Downey, CA, Gayle Smith of Downey, CA, Ellen Pauley of Ontario, CA, Marsha Joye of Bellingham WA and nephews, Kenneth Ganser of Sanger, CA and Chris Adams of Eagle, CO.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Jim who died November 2nd, 2002, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
