Woman Suffers Instant Death in Street Car Fall

Witness Claims Matron Thrown to Floor by Sudden Starting of Vehicle

Mrs. Lucy R. Reed, 44, of 2778 South State street, was almost instantly killed at 4:$5 p. m. Monday when she was thrown to the floor of a street car at Hollywood avenue and Seventh East street.

The woman suffered a lacerated forehead, according to physicians who examined the body after it was taken to the emergency hospital. The doctors believe the woman also suffered a heart attach when she was knocked to the floor.

The car, operated by Motorman E. C. Wadsworth, 35, of 694 Harrison avenue, is said to have started with a quick jerk as the woman, who boarded the car at Hollywood avenue, en route to town, started towards a seat.

Mrs. Daniel Harrington, wife of City Judge Harrington, was a witness to the accident and said the woman was completely under a seat as the car jerked.

Mrs. Read was enroute home after attending ameeting of the program comittee of Richards camp, Daughters of Pioneers, at the home of Mrs. W. R. Glade, 723 Ramona avenue.

She was born October 9, 1885 in Farmington. For several years the family lived in Oakley and later in Rupert, Ida. She came to Salt Lake sixteen years ago, and had been active in L. D. S. church work.
