Matilda White was born June 5, 1822 in Nevins Township, Vigo, Indiana to John A. White and Esther (Easter) Terry.

On September 26, 1837 in Vigo County, IN she married Joel Jackson Adams, the son of William Greer Jr Adams and Elizabeth Mercer.
Matilda and Joel made their home in Nevins Township, Vigo County, Indiana. Her husband was a farmer and a cooper by trade, making barrels.
Joel and Matilda became parents of 11 children: Margaret Ann Adams, who married John Nevins; Suan D. Adams, who married Alexander Lucas; John W. Adams; Sarah Caroline Adams who married Greenville Penn Hardesty; Addison Adams; Miles P. Adams who married Mary E. Bryant; Samuel Nathaniel Adams who married Josephine Beachamp; Thomas Adams who married Laura Lawson; Henry Jackson Adams who married Mary Ann Beachamp; Filmore Adams who married Adeline Grindle and then Rosana Compton; and Franklin "Frank" William Adams who married Cynthia Bryant. Matilda and Joel's children gave them many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Matilda passed away on September 23, 1906 in Nevins Township, Vigo, Indiana. She was laid to rest at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Fontanet, Vigo, Indiana beside her husband who died in 1867.
