Nancy Elizabeth Almond, age 49, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, after a valiant battle with cancer.Nancy was a 47-year resident of Muscle Shoals and employed as a teacher with the Muscle Shoals school system, working with gifted students. She was devoted to her students. She was a former board member of The Healing Place, a proud member of her church choir, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an avid genealogist and a member of numerous genealogical societies.Although she never had children of her own, she always considered all her students to be her children.Her parents, Lawrence H. and Ann A. Almond, preceded her in death.She is survived by two brothers, Richard A. Almond and wife, Jane, of Florence, Mark S. Almond of Birmingham; and one niece, Katherine E. Almond of Florence.The funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Sheffield.. Her body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.Pallbearers are O.V. Ledgewood, Allen Ledgewood, Paul McCulley, Donald Conn, Roger McCullum and Randy Zills.Honorary pallbearers are Richard Barnes, Norm Jordan, Dr. Hermat Patel and her past and present students.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to The Healing Place, First Methodist Church of Sheffield Music Department, or The Nancy Almond Memorial Fund at First Metro Bank of Muscle Shoals.Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
